Coaching in technical organizations offers a wide range of challenges not commonly found in other kinds of environments. For example, some highly technical people experience considerable impatience communicating with less technical people. They use code words known only to their respective groups and personally find it painful to work with the “end-users” of their technologies. In addition to resolving the client’s immediate problem, the coach is faced with constructing a psychological bridge to cross the communications gap. The point here is that success requires the Coach to be a competent person in several disciplines not only the formal aspects of the coaching process. — Ray Newkirk
