A Human Activity Systems Framework for Engaging in Redecision Psychotherapy

Systems Management Institute Press · Oct 1, 1999

Debate continues over the value of theory and methodology in Eclectic and Multi-Theoretical approaches to psychology, herein referred to as EM-T psychotherapy. While we can argue much about the progress of psychotherapy over the last 40 years, such progress is ambiguous. Lacking the rigor of theory, some practitioners employ an intuitive approach to eclectic psychotherapy while others employ multi-theoretical tools and techniques without benefit of a coherent and overarching meta-theory to link the tools and techniques for improved effectivity. Even where systems theory is used to overcome these nagging shortcomings, practitioners of psychotherapy may under conceptualize systems practice.

Informed by systems thinking, this study will contribute to the philosophy, methodology, and theory of psychology. It will explore the systems models perspective as a viable approach for describing and modeling psychotherapy as a human activity system.
